Congo's Ebola Cases Pass 2,100 as Uganda's Outbreak Nears Its End
As of July 15, Congo had reported 2,124 confirmed cases, including 828 deaths, WHO said July 17. Germany confirmed a case on July 13 in an American humanitarian worker medically evacuated from Congo, the second U.S. citizen treated in Germany. Uganda's last patient was discharged on July 16, starting the 42-day countdown required before its outbreak can be declared over.
WHO declared the outbreak, first confirmed in May, a public health emergency of international concern on May 17. Bundibugyo virus is one of the Ebola viruses; there is no licensed vaccine for it, and it spreads through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of sick people.
